Baku, SONNA –  Somalia and Azerbaijan have signed a defense and industrial cooperation agreement. The agreement was inked by Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Mr. Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur, and Azerbaijan’s Minister of Defense, Mr. Zakir Hasanov, during a ceremony held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The signing was witnessed by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the President of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, underscoring the importance of the partnership between the two nations. The agreement aims to enhance collaboration in defense and industrial sectors, fostering mutual growth and security.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his optimism about the agreement, stating, “This partnership marks a new chapter in the relationship between Somalia and Azerbaijan. It will not only strengthen our defense capabilities but also promote industrial development and economic cooperation.”

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev echoed these sentiments, highlighting the potential for shared benefits. “Azerbaijan is committed to supporting Somalia’s efforts to build a secure and prosperous future. This agreement reflects our shared vision for peace and development,” he said.

The defense and industrial cooperation agreement is expected to facilitate the exchange of expertise, technology, and resources between the two countries. It will also pave the way for joint initiatives aimed at enhancing defense capabilities and promoting industrial growth in Somalia.

This landmark agreement comes as Somalia continues to rebuild its national institutions and strengthen its security infrastructure. The partnership with Azerbaijan is seen as a vital step in achieving these goals, while also fostering stronger diplomatic and economic ties between the two nations.

The signing ceremony in Baku marks a milestone in Somalia’s efforts to expand its international partnerships and secure support for its development agenda. Both countries have expressed their commitment to working closely to ensure the successful implementation of the agreement.
