Mogadishu (SONNA): The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Federal Government of Somalia has organized a consultative meeting on road safety and traffic congestion management, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Shingaani District.
The important meeting focused on improving the transport system, enhancing road safety, and addressing traffic congestion challenges.
The session was officially opened by the Director General of the Ministry, Mr. Omar Ali Afrax, and was attended by department directors and advisors, along with representatives from the Ministries of Health, Public Works, Internal Security, and Interior, as well as officials from the Traffic Police and Hornvista, a company working in transport and road safety.
During the meeting, particular emphasis was placed on proposed amendments to the Traffic Law, aimed at establishing a modern system that responds to current needs. The Ministry presented a strategic vision based on three key priorities:
- Establishing clear laws and regulations for swift implementation,
- Strengthening coordination among institutions responsible for public safety,
- Increasing public awareness to promote shared responsibility in road usage.
The meeting also highlighted the direct link between road safety and the country’s overall development, noting that reducing traffic accidents and improving transport systems play a significant role in economic growth and public safety.
The consultative meeting marks an important step toward establishing a comprehensive road safety system and reducing congestion, with benefits for the country as a whole.
