Manama, May 16, 2024 – At the 33rd Arab League summit held in Manama, the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, delivered a poignant speech addressing the myriad challenges faced by Arab nations and underscored the necessity of collective efforts to overcome them.

In a passionate appeal, Prime Minister Barre reiterated Somalia’s longstanding stance on Palestine, expressing profound sorrow over the ongoing conflict and urging for the immediate cessation of violence and adherence to United Nations General Assembly resolutions.

Highlighting the domestic achievements, Mr. Barre shared Somalia’s progress in combating the Khawarij insurgency, reforming security forces, and stabilizing the nation amidst external pressures on its sovereignty, particularly from neighboring Ethiopia. He accused Ethiopia of persistent meddling in Somali affairs, which he deemed detrimental not only to Somalia but also to the security of the Arab region, affecting strategic locations like the Red Sea and Bab-el-Mandeb strait.

With an optimistic outlook, the Prime Minister informed the assembly of Somalia’s untapped investment potential and rich natural resources, inviting Arab leaders to bolster the Somali government’s efforts through investment and support.

The summit concluded with a unified resolve to foster solidarity among Arab countries and a commitment to assist Somalia in its path to peace and prosperity.
