Somali National Army, AUSSOM Forces Liberate Two Villages in Lower Shabelle

MOGADISHU – The Somali National Army (SNA), supported by Ugandan forces of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), have successfully liberated the villages of Shaamgare and Raqayle in the Awdhiigle district of the Lower Shabelle region. The operation, a key part of the ongoing “Silent Storm” offensive, resulted in the defeat of extremist groups who had been using the area as a hideout.

The operation, part of the third phase of the military campaign, began in the early morning hours and involved a brief but intense battle. The Somali and AUSSOM forces demonstrated professional tactical skill, engaging the extremists in their fortified dens and caves.

According to military reports, the extremists suffered heavy losses, with many militants killed or wounded. The swift and decisive action of the joint forces prevented a prolonged engagement and forced the remaining militants to flee the area.

This liberation is a significant step in the wider military campaign to restore state authority and security across the country. The “Silent Storm” offensive aims to dismantle extremist networks and ensure that communities in key regions can return to normal life free from militant threats. The successful clearing of these villages is expected to strengthen the government’s control over the Lower Shabelle region, paving the way for further stability and development in the area.
