Kampala, (SONNA) – Somalia’s Ambassador to Uganda, H.E. Fardowsa Mohamed Qanyare, held a meeting with the Director General of Uganda’s Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control, Gen. Apollo Kasiita-Gowa, at her office in Kampala.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation on immigration and promoting the integration of Somali and Ugandan citizens. Ambassador Fardowsa raised concerns on behalf of the Somali community in Uganda, many of whom are living in the country without formal legal status.

She emphasized the importance of equitable treatment for Somali nationals, especially given Somalia’s membership in the East African Community (EAC). The ambassador also highlighted the need for fair treatment of Somali students studying in Uganda, comparable to students from other EAC member states.

In response, Gen. Kasiita-Gowa assured the ambassador that the concerns raised would be addressed and pledged to consult with Uganda’s Ministry of East African Community Affairs to explore appropriate solutions.
