Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Minister of Defense of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur highlighted the growing role of the Somali Air Force in the ongoing battle against Al-Shabaab, stating that airstrikes using newly acquired military aircraft have severely weakened the militant group.
“The fight against Al-Shabaab has been significantly bolstered by the Somali Air Force, which is deploying aircraft purchased by the government. These strikes have inflicted heavy damage on the enemy,” Minister Nur told state media.
He added that the air force’s capabilities have improved, leading to a series of successful targeted operations across the country. According to the minister, the intensified airstrikes have yielded major victories in the fight against terrorism.
The defense minister also revealed that government forces have captured wounded Al-Shabaab fighters who ran out of ammunition in battle. He assured that they are receiving medical treatment while urging misled youth still fighting alongside the militants to surrender and take advantage of the government’s amnesty offer.
