The United Arab Emirates has stepped up its support for families devastated by the recent severe weather conditions. In a meeting that brought together Mr. Mohamud Macallin Abdille, the Commissioner of the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), and the UAE Ambassador, His Excellency Ahmed Juma Al-Rumeysi, the two officials discussed strategies for emergency aid delivery.
The discussions centered on the dire situation caused by the spring rains, which have left many families in distress and at risk of future flooding. In a gesture of goodwill and solidarity, Ambassador Al-Rumeysi handed over a substantial donation of 7,000 cartons of daily food supplies and 1,000 tents to Governor Mohamud. These supplies are earmarked for immediate distribution to the most impoverished communities for resettlement purposes.
Ambassador Al-Rumeysi also conveyed the UAE government’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Somali people and the federal government. Reflecting this pledge, he announced plans to double the aid provided to those affected by the ongoing drought and flood conditions, reinforcing the UAE’s role as a key humanitarian player in the region.
This development comes at a critical time when Somalia is grappling with the adverse effects of climate change, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in disaster response and management.
