Mogadishu, (SONNA) - As El Niño looms, the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) and its International partners warn that Somalia faces a high risk of 1.2 million people being affected. The likelihood of El Niño occurring in the country is 95%, according to forecasts. The Commissioner of SoDMA, Mahamuud Moallim opened a training program for journalists from various private and Gov't media outlets to learn to understand and disseminate early warning messages for floods and El Nino. According to forecasts, the probability of  El Niño in the country is 95%, and various media professionals will be of great importance in monitoring El Niño events to raise public awareness of the danger it could bring. The training was called 'Raising Awareness of El Nino Flood Anticipation Through Sensitization and Introducing Standard Common Alerting Protocols to the Media Practitioners and Professionals'.
