MOGADISHU, SOMALIA – In a significant gathering that brought together government officials and community members for an Iftar event, Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre delivered a stirring message of unity and the need for proactive leadership to build a robust government in Somalia.

Addressing the attendees, Prime Minister Hamsa emphasized the importance of establishing clear laws to guide future elections and avoid political disputes. “We are at a critical juncture where the appointment of an electoral commission cannot be delayed,” he stated. “To prevent the political uncertainty of the past, we need to act now and ensure that the commission is prepared by the parties for a timely and uncontroversial election.”

The Prime Minister also highlighted the ongoing efforts to finalize the Transitional Constitution, a task he described as a collective challenge for all Somali people. He urged for support rather than opposition, assuring that the Constitution is in safe hands and stressing the importance of following the responsible institutions to address major constitutional issues, including sovereignty, security, and development.

In addition, Prime Minister Hamsa acknowledged the positive changes in the capital’s security, commending the measures taken to eradicate harmful practices that affect society, religion, and culture. He called for these efforts to continue, signaling a commitment to fostering a secure and harmonious environment for all Somalis.

The Iftar event marks a moment of reflection and solidarity as Somalia navigates its path towards stability and growth, with its leaders and community members coming together to share in the spirit of Ramadan and discuss the nation’s future.
