The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has been honoured with the prestigious Africa Leadership Award for 2025, presented by Africa House, an organisation dedicated to promoting trade, economic development, and leadership across the African continent.
The award recognizes African leaders and individuals who have made significant contributions to governance, economic growth, peacebuilding, and social development in their countries and across the continent. President Mohamud was awarded for his outstanding efforts in the following areas:
1.State-Building and Liberation Efforts: Leading initiatives to reclaim territories outside government control and rebuilding state institutions in areas formerly controlled by the Al-Shabaab terrorists.
2.Somalia’s Debt Relief Program: Restoring international relations and successfully implementing economic strategies to pave the way for Somalia’s inclusion in global debt relief programs.
3.Rebuilding the Armed Forces: Strengthening the capacity of Somalia’s national forces to enhance security and restore peace.
4.Lifting the Arms Embargo: Advocating for the removal of the decades-long arms embargo on Somalia, enabling the country to properly equip its forces.
5.Joining the East African Community (EAC): Steering Somalia’s successful admission into the East African Community, fostering stronger trade and economic ties with neighboring countries.
This recognition is a significant milestone for Somalia, showcasing the global acknowledgment of the government’s efforts to advance peace, stability, and development in the country and the region. The Africa Leadership Award underscores the progress Somalia has made under President Mohamud’s leadership, cementing its place on the international stage.
