Mogadishu, Somalia – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, during a dinner held in honor of Somali religious scholars who attended the Second Conference of the Somali Religious Scholars, highlighted the critical importance of unity among religious scholars for achieving lasting national unity.

President Mohamud welcomed the report from the Religious Scholars Congress and urged the scholars to strengthen their unity to foster enduring Somali unity. He expressed gratitude for their unwavering support to the government in safeguarding religion, culture, and the lives of Somali citizens. He also encouraged them to continue playing a pivotal role in guiding the nation, bolstering the government, advancing development, and educating the public.

“Somali scholars are the leaders of the nation and are expected to guide the people towards peace, security, and good governance. The peace, unity, and progress of the Somali people depend on a united Somali Religious Scholars,” stated President Mohamud.

The President also called on the scholars to intensify their efforts in combating the Khawarij and countering their harmful ideologies, aiming to reunite the Somali community that has been fragmented by civil strife.
