Mogadishu, Somalia – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, attended the 23rd extraordinary meeting of the East African Economic Cooperation Regional Organization, where he lauded the support of member countries for Somalia’s bid for membership in the United Nations Security Council.
During his inaugural address at the Summit, President Mohamud highlighted the significance of collaboration among EAC member states in the realms of peace, security, trade, and economic development. He announced that Somalia is poised to dispatch its delegates to the legislative and judicial bodies of the East African Economic Cooperation Regional Organization, marking a new chapter in Somalia’s engagement with the regional bloc.
“Today marks a historic epoch for Somalia as we partake in our first summit as an official member of this esteemed organization. We are on the cusp of appointing our representatives to the two Houses of Parliament and the Court of Justice,” declared President Mohamud.
The Somali leader called upon his counterparts in the EAC to forge ahead with definitive strategies to address the security and economic hurdles that the region faces. He underscored the necessity of fortifying the bonds between EAC member states, thereby reinforcing the foundation of the organization.
This development signifies a pivotal step for Somalia as it embraces a more integrated role within the East African community, fostering a future of shared prosperity and stability.
