Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E Hassan Sheikh Mohamud addressed the Parliament during the opening of the 6th session, delivering key constitutional speech.
In his remarks, President Hassan Sheikh expressed gratitude to the Parliament for their efforts in finalizing the constitution during the 5th session. He also extended congratulations to the Puntland administration and its people for their ongoing battle against the ISIS group, emphasizing the significant victories achieved against the insurgents. “We stand by the Puntland forces engaged in this righteous struggle against the Khawarij militants. The Federal Government of Somalia supports the forces and the people in this fight,” he stated.
On the topic of military development, the President highlighted the successful establishment of both the Air Force and Navy, which are now capable of defending the country’s waters and airspace. “The Federal Government of Somalia is committed to protecting our waters and combating illegal fishing,” he affirmed.
President Hassan Sheikh also addressed the ongoing fight against the Al-Shabaab militants, noting the considerable progress made in cleansing areas of the country from their presence.
Furthermore, he announced plans to establish a satellite launch center in Somalia within the year, marking the first of its kind in the Horn of Africa. “By the end of this year, the launch of the first satellite will take place, a historic moment for Africa,” he said, adding that construction of the facility is already underway.
The President reassured the Somali people that power is returning to their hands, with upcoming elections allowing citizens to elect their leaders through a one-person, one-vote system. “We are here to restore the rights of Somali citizens to choose their leaders,” President Hassan Sheikh declared.
