Mogadishu, SONNA – President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud marked Europe Day with a heartfelt expression of gratitude towards the European Union for its steadfast support of Somalia. At a commemorative event, the President highlighted Somalia’s pledge to uphold democratic values, enhance relations, and foster development through a stronger alliance with the EU.
President Mohamud reaffirmed the government’s determination to establish accountable institutions and proceed with direct national elections. He stressed the importance of a concerted effort to escalate the fight against the Al-Shabaab militant group, with a definitive strategy to transition more security responsibilities to Somali forces.
The President’s speech reflects Somalia’s ongoing commitment to fortify its democratic foundations and ensure the safety and security of its citizens, with the support of the European Union as a key partner in these endeavors.
