Kismayo, (SONNA) – The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E Hamza Abdi Barre has unveiled three projects aimed at addressing the effects of climate change and poverty in Jubbaland and Southwest States. The initiatives, known as XALDOON, NEGAAD, and SEPOW, seek to alleviate the impact of climate-induced challenges for internally displaced persons in Somalia. The projects aim to promote sustainable solutions, climate adaptation, and women’s participation in socio-economic development in these two regions.
During the launch ceremony in Kismayo, Prime Minister Barre emphasized the significance of these interventions for the affected communities, particularly in light of the country’s struggle with climate change-induced shocks that have severely weakened the Somali people’s ability to sustain their livelihoods.
The Prime Minister expressed gratitude towards the international development partners who made contributions to these programs and stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment for viable socio-economic recovery through comprehensive climate change adaptation and sustainable development solutions.
