The Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, has expressed deep concern over the recent developments in relations between Ethiopia and Somalia, which have strained the ties between the two neighboring countries.
In a statement issued on January 3, 2024, from Djibouti, Dr. Gebeyehu said that IGAD was closely monitoring the situation and recognised the potential implications for regional stability. He urged the IGAD leaders to be seized of the matter and appealed to the two sisterly countries to collaborate towards a peaceful and amicable resolution of the situation, upholding the shared values that unite the IGAD family.
