Mogadishu,[SONNA] – The football team representing the Galmudug regional government emerged victorious in the inter-state tournament of regional administrations and the Banadir region. The decisive match against counterparts from Hirshabelle saw an intense match that concluded with a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes of play, leading to a dramatic penalty shootout that ultimately favored Galmudug.
President Ahmed Abdi Kariye expressed his joy and admiration for the team stating, “Congratulations, guys! You played amazingly, exhibiting good behavior and high skills. The cup will be proudly brought to the capital of Galmudug, Dhusamareb.” President Kariye also asked to host the next inter-state cup in Galmudug in the year 2025.
The competition, held at Mogadishu Stadium for the first time in 33 years brought together thousands of supporters from various parts of the country, The Galmudug regional government team reached the final last year but faced defeat in a penalty shootout against the Banadir regional team, they reversed their fortune this year by securing the championship with a penalty shootout.
The inter-state tournament not only showcased exceptional sportsmanship but also marked a significant milestone in Somali football, bringing together teams from various regional administrations.
