Mogadishu, (SONNA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, in light of recent developments and in adherence to the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, announces the initiation of several diplomatic measures. This decision follows the resolution passed by the Council of Ministers in response to the actions of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, which infringe upon Somalia’s sovereignty and internal affairs.
Effective immediately:
1. The Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Somalia, His Excellency Muktar Mohamed Ware, has been informed to depart from Somalia within the next 72 hours.
2. The Ethiopian Consulates General in Hargeisa and Garowe are to be closed within a period of seven (7) days.
3. The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to Addis Ababa is summoned back to Mogadishu for comprehensive consultations.
These measures were taken in the interest of safeguarding the sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
While the Federal Government of Somalia remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining and fostering peaceful relations with all neighboring countries, it is essential that mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity forms the basis of these relations.
