Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Federal Republic of Somalia warmly welcomes the decision of the brotherly Government of the Republic of Sudan to resume its full participation in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). Somalia particularly values Sudan’s reaffirmation that regional cooperation constitutes the foundation of effective international cooperation, and that the preservation of regional and international peace and security remains a central priority.
The Federal Republic of Somalia also commends the constructive diplomatic efforts undertaken by the brotherly Republic of Djibouti, under the wise leadership of President Ismail Omar Guelleh, Chair of the current IGAD Summit. These efforts played a vital role in facilitating Sudan’s successful return, reflecting the enduring spirit of regional solidarity and collective responsibility.
Somalia considers Sudan’s return, given its historical, political, and geographical significance as a cornerstone of the organization, as a development that will inject renewed momentum into IGAD’s work and strengthen its capacity to address shared challenges, particularly in the areas of peace, security, and sustainable development.
The Federal Republic of Somalia reaffirms its steadfast commitment to working closely with the Republic of Sudan and all IGAD Member States to deepen cooperation, uphold the principles of brotherhood and collective action, and advance the shared aspirations of the peoples of the region.
