Mogadishu, SONNA – The Chinese Embassy in Mogadishu hosted a reception on Thursday to honor Somali alumni who have studied in Chinese universities. The event brought together distinguished alumni, including Ambassador Dr. Hodan Osman and Said Jama Mire Director of Asia Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Chinese Universities Alumni. Both Dr. Osman and Mr. Mire emphasized the invaluable opportunities they had gained through their education in China.

The reception aimed to strengthen educational ties between the two nations and recognize the contributions of Somali alumni to their country’s development. Alumni from various fields, such as medicine, nursing, IT, and engineering, were present to celebrate their achievements.

State Minister of Family and Human Rights Development Mohamed Osman Nastaro expressed gratitude to the Chinese government for providing educational opportunities to Somali students. He highlighted the positive impact of these alumni on Somalia’s progress in various sectors.

Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu emphasized the importance of reconnecting with alumni to foster understanding and cooperation. He underscored three key shared experiences among the attendees: their common educational journey, their shared commitment to Somalia’s development, and their shared responsibility to enhance bilateral relations.

Ambassador Wang expressed optimism about future collaborations and announced ongoing discussions for further development initiatives, including support for Somali university freshmen from rural areas. He urged attendees to continue building connections that will benefit both Somalia and China.
