UPEACE Somalia Opens 2026 Admissions, Announces Scholarship Opportunities

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The University for Peace (UPEACE) Somalia has announced the opening of admissions for its 2026 enrolment, offering Master’s and Doctoral programmes to students from Somalia, East Africa and beyond.

According to the admission announcement, UPEACE Somalia is offering Doctoral programmes in Peace, Governance and Development; Leadership and Sustainable Development; Blue Economy and Maritime Security; and Land Degradation and Desertification. Applicants for the doctoral programmes are required to hold a certified Master’s degree and transcripts, alongside other requirements specified during the application process.

The Master’s programmes listed in the announcement include Peace, Governance and Development (MA); Environment, Development and Peace (MA); International Law and Human Rights (MA); Disaster Resilience and Humanitarian Action (MA); Energy, Economics and Governance (MSc); and Sustainable Water Resources Management (MA). Applicants are required to have a certified Bachelor’s degree and transcripts, with additional requirements applicable during the application process.

The announcement states that UPEACE Somalia was established in 2018 and provides international study programmes that support Somalia’s development needs. The programmes are offered online and are open to students from across East Africa and beyond. UPEACE itself was established in 1980 through United Nations General Assembly Resolution 35/55 and is headquartered in Costa Rica.

The institution has also announced special scholarship opportunities, including 30 percent scholarships for Master’s programmes, 50 percent scholarships for PhD programmes, and 60 percent scholarships for UPEACE alumni.
