Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Jama) is leading a Somali parliamentary delegation to the 21st meeting of Speakers of East African Community parliaments and the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

Arusha (SONNA) - The Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur (Jama), has arrived in Arusha, Tanzania, at the head of a parliamentary delegation to attend the 21st meeting of Speakers of East African Community (EAC) parliaments and the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).
The delegation was received at Arusha airport by Somalia’s Ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community, Ilyas Ali Hassan, and other officials.
The Speakers’ meeting brings together the heads of parliaments of the EAC Partner States, which Somalia joined as a full member in 2024. Arusha is the seat of the Community’s headquarters.
The 153rd IPU Assembly will be held at the Arusha International Conference Centre from 5 to 9 October, hosted by the National Assembly of Tanzania. It is the first time Tanzania has hosted a full IPU Assembly, the main gathering of the global organisation of national parliaments, founded in 1889.
The general debate will focus on the theme “Enhancing good governance and empowering communities through inclusivity, trust and opportunities for all.” According to the IPU, the Assembly will also adopt a resolution on parliamentary strategies to promote the rights and empowerment of people living with disabilities, and all of the organisation’s statutory bodies, including its Standing Committees and the Forums of Women and Young Parliamentarians, will meet during the week.
The Assembly will close with the election of a new IPU President by the Governing Council, to succeed Dr. Tulia Ackson of Tanzania, whose three-year term ends in October.
