Somalia, U.S. Reaffirm Strategic Partnership During LaHood Visit

Mogadishu(SONNA)-President of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mahmud on Tuesday hosted U.S. Congressman Darin LaHood at Villa Somalia, where the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, with a focus on security, counterterrorism, trade, and investment.
The discussions highlighted the strong Somalia–U.S. security partnership, which both sides said continues to deliver progress in the fight against Al-Shabaab, while also exploring opportunities to expand cooperation in economic development and investment.
President Hassan Sheikh described the United States as a trusted strategic partner and thanked Washington for its continued support in advancing peace, security, and the strengthening of Somali institutions. He also reaffirmed his government's commitment to improving security and creating an investment-friendly environment.
Congressman LaHood praised Somalia's progress in rebuilding state institutions, enhancing stability, and sustaining military operations against Al-Shabaab, reaffirming the United States' commitment to deepening cooperation on shared priorities.
