Somalia, U.S. Discuss Strategic Communications in Counterterrorism Efforts

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdifatah Qasim Mohamud, on Saturday received Robert Flannery, the U.S. Government’s East Africa Counterterrorism Program Adviser, at his office in Mogadishu.
The meeting focused on strengthening Somalia–U.S. cooperation in counterterrorism, public awareness, countering extremist propaganda and ideologies, and coordinating government messaging on counterterrorism efforts.
Minister Abdifatah emphasized the importance of a unified media strategy, effective public awareness campaigns and closer cooperation to ensure the Somali public receives accurate information that promotes understanding and participation in efforts to counter terrorism.
Flannery underscored the importance of continued Somalia–U.S. cooperation, particularly in media and strategic communications, to strengthen counterterrorism efforts and U.S. support in related areas.
