Somalia Strengthens Climate and Land Restoration Cooperation at UNCCD COP17

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, (SONNA) — The Director General, H.E. Abdirisak Ahmed Ali, held separate high-level meetings with climate and environmental partners on the sidelines of UNCCD COP17 in Ulaanbaatar, focusing on strengthening cooperation to address drought, land degradation and displacement in Somalia.
The Director General met with Ms. Rania Sharshar, Director of Climate Action at the International Organization for Migration (IOM), to discuss cooperation on addressing displacement linked to drought and land degradation, including through data-driven and sustainable solutions.
He also met with Eng. Ibrahim Alturki, Secretary-General of the Middle East Green Initiative (MGI), to explore opportunities for collaboration on land restoration, combating land degradation and advancing environmental resilience in Somalia.
The engagements underscored Somalia’s commitment to strengthening international partnerships and advancing sustainable, climate-resilient solutions to the country’s environmental and displacement challenges.
