Somalia Reviews Strategic Investment in Shabelle River Water Resources

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Director General of the Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, Abdifatah Abdulkadir Farah, participated in a consultative meeting on the Shabelle River Water Resources Investment Plan.
Organised by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the meeting focused on strategic investments in the Shabelle River, particularly the Jowhar Off-Stream Storage Project (JOSP), water resource management, agricultural production and strengthening climate resilience.
The Director General stressed the importance of aligning investments in the Shabelle River with the National Transformation Plan (NTP 2025–2029) and Somalia’s development priorities.
He noted that such investments are essential to strengthening food security, improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable development.
The Shabelle River remains a key resource for Somalia’s agricultural and economic development, making strategic planning and investment in its resources vital to the country’s development.
