Somalia, Qatar University Sign Agreement to Establish Technology University

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education of the Federal Government of Somalia and Doha-based University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) have signed a cooperation agreement in Doha to support the establishment of Somalia’s Technology University (TUS University).

The agreement, signed in Doha, will provide a framework for developing a university focused on high-quality technical and vocational education. Under the partnership, UDST will support the development of curricula, teacher training, quality assurance and certification.

The first phase of the project will focus on key fields including technology, marine sciences, aviation, petroleum, engineering, energy and health management, aimed at strengthening the knowledge and professional skills of Somali youth.

The initiative forms part of Somalia’s National Transformation Plan 2025–2029 and seeks to improve the quality of education while developing skills aligned with the needs of the labour market. Particular emphasis will be placed on training Somali teachers who will contribute to the administration and academic workforce of the new university.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education by Director General of Higher Education Mohamed Abdullahi Mahmoud, while Prof. Rashid Benlamri, Vice President for Education at UDST, signed on behalf of the university.

The signing ceremony was attended by Somalia’s Minister of Education, Culture and Higher Education, Somalia’s Ambassador to Qatar and senior officials from UDST.

The Ministry expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Qatar for their continued support and cooperation with Somalia.
