Somalia Participates in the 36th EASF Policy Organs Meetings in Kampala

Kampala, (SONNA) — The Deputy Minister of Defence of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Idris Osman Haji Ali participated in the 36th Policy Organs Meetings of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), which concluded in Kampala, Republic of Uganda.

The meetings brought together the Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff and the Council of Ministers of Defence. Discussions focused on reviewing EASF activities, assessing the regional security situation, strengthening defence and security cooperation, and approving the organisation’s work plan for the remainder of 2026.

The meetings also welcomed the progress made in Sudan’s security situation and recovery efforts. It was agreed that the Republic of Sudan would assume the chairmanship of the Eastern Africa Standby Force in 2027.

The Somali delegation also included Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Hassan, representing the Chief of the Somali National Armed Forces, and H.E. Fardowsa Mohamed Qanyare, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Republic of Uganda.
