Somalia Participates in 28th IORA Senior Officials’ Meeting in New Delhi

New Delhi, (SONNA) — The Federal Government of Somalia participated in the 28th Meeting of the Senior Officials Committee of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), held in New Delhi, India, from June 15–16, 2026.
Representing Somalia at the two-day meeting was Dr. Abdullahi Mohamed Odowa, Somalia’s Ambassador to India, who attended on behalf of the Federal Government.
The meeting focused on reviewing the organization’s achievements over the past year, assessing key challenges facing member states, and strengthening cooperation among IORA countries. Discussions also addressed ways to enhance regional collaboration in areas such as maritime security, economic development, and sustainable growth across the Indian Ocean region.
Senior officials further worked on recommendations and priority agenda items to be presented to the upcoming Council of Ministers Meeting of Indian Ocean Rim Association. These proposals are expected to guide future initiatives aimed at deepening regional partnerships, improving maritime governance, and advancing the welfare of communities living around the Indian Ocean.
Somalia’s participation underscores its continued commitment to regional cooperation and its engagement in efforts to promote stability, connectivity, and sustainable development across the Indian Ocean Rim.
