Somalia Holds National Conference to Strengthen El Niño Preparedness

Mogadishu, Somalia – Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mahmoud Moallim Abdulle, on Monday opened a national consultative conference on preparedness for the anticipated El Niño phenomenon, with a focus on the role of women's organizations in disaster risk management.

The conference brought together officials from key government ministries, researchers, and representatives of women's organizations to strengthen national preparedness for potential climate-related impacts.

Addressing the gathering, the Commissioner underscored the importance of coordination among government institutions, women's organizations, and local communities to enhance early warning systems, disaster preparedness, and Somalia's resilience to climate change.

The meeting is expected to produce recommendations aimed at strengthening women's participation in disaster response and improving the country's overall preparedness for El Niño.
