Somalia Highlights Civil Aviation Progress at Regional Conference in Qatar

Doha, (SONNA) — The Director General of the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), Ahmed Moallin Hassan, highlighted Somalia’s progress in civil aviation and the strategic importance of the country’s airspace at the eighth meeting of Directors General of Civil Aviation in the Middle East (DGCA-MID/8) in Doha.
The Director General said Somali airspace has played an increasingly important role in connecting regional and international civil aviation, particularly at a time when security developments in the region have affected flight operations.
He highlighted the modernization of Somalia’s aviation systems, the introduction of advanced technologies and the development of skilled personnel as key factors strengthening the country’s aviation sector and the importance of its airspace.
“Today, we have reached a point where the world relies on us,” the Director General said.
He added that Somalia’s participation in the conference strengthens regional aviation cooperation, noting the country’s strategic position along key regional and international air routes.
The conference, hosted by the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) in cooperation with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Middle East Regional Office (ICAO MID), brings together civil aviation authorities and regional and international organizations.
Discussions cover aviation safety and air navigation, cybersecurity, environmental protection, air transport facilitation, regional cooperation, aviation security and challenges related to unmanned aircraft systems.
