Somalia, Azerbaijan Explore Cooperation to Modernize Media Sector

AKU, Azerbaijan(SONNA)-Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Abdulfatah Kasim Mohamud, on Wednesday met with Ahmad Ismayilov, Chairman of Azerbaijan’s Media and Broadcasting Council, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in media development, professional training, and broadcasting technology.

The talks focused on building the capacity of Somali media professionals, modernizing broadcasting equipment at Somali National Television and Radio Muqdisho, and exploring technical support and knowledge-sharing opportunities.

Both sides also discussed digitizing Somalia’s historical archives to preserve the country’s cultural heritage, alongside cooperation in digital media, information security, combating disinformation, and the use of artificial intelligence in broadcasting.

The meeting underscored Somalia’s interest in strengthening its media institutions through professional training, technical assistance, and closer cooperation with Azerbaijan.

Somalia’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abdinur Dahir Fidow, also attended the meeting.
