Somali Cabinet Approves Resolution on Constitution Implementation

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia, chaired by Prime Minister H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, held an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday evening and approved a resolution on the implementation of the Constitution.
The Cabinet appointed a ministerial committee chaired by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs to accelerate the implementation process. The committee was tasked with preparing, within two months, a bill governing the structure of the Federal Government, including the size and responsibilities of the Cabinet.
According to the government, the legislation will be the first of its kind in Somalia since 1968.
Prime Minister Hamza said the Constitution is in force and its implementation is proceeding through different stages. He added that the government is working toward holding federal one-person, one-vote elections next year in accordance with the Constitution.
The meeting also discussed state-building, strengthening government institutions and improving national administrative systems.
Separately, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation briefed the Cabinet on the restoration of Somalia’s IATA country code system for airline ticketing.
The Ministry said the restoration strengthens Somalia’s authority over airline ticketing procedures and integration with international travel systems, while supporting improved management and delivery of civil aviation services.
