SoDMA leads discussions on flood risk preparedness ahead of Deyr season

Nairobi, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mr. Mahamuud Moallim, alongside Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, today opened a SoDMA-organized forum in Nairobi focused on preparedness for the upcoming Deyr rains and potential flooding risks.
The meeting brought together government officials, international partners, UN agencies, and donors to strengthen early warning systems, improve flood preparedness planning, and explore financing mechanisms to support vulnerable communities at risk from natural disasters.
Ambassador Jabril highlighted the important role Somali businesses and the diaspora can play in supporting emergency response efforts and assisting communities affected by disasters.
Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among government institutions, donors, and humanitarian partners to enhance disaster preparedness and ensure timely assistance reaches affected communities.
