SoDMA, UNFPA Discuss Strengthening Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Deputy Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Dr. Ahmed Abdi Adan, received the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Representative in Somalia, Judicael Elidje, at SoDMA headquarters to discuss strengthening cooperation on disaster preparedness and response.

The meeting focused on enhancing early warning systems, protecting vulnerable groups and strengthening preparedness for potential El Niño-related emergencies.

Dr. Ahmed highlighted SoDMA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination, monitor emerging risks, develop emergency response plans and support vulnerable communities during crises.

Mr. Elidje reaffirmed UNFPA’s readiness to deploy health teams and provide essential supplies to help maintain critical services for women, children and displaced communities during emergencies.

The discussions underscored the importance of continued collaboration between SoDMA and UNFPA in strengthening Somalia’s preparedness and capacity to respond effectively to humanitarian emergencies.
