Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), H.E. Mohamud Moallim Abdulle, held a productive meeting with a delegation from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), including officials from its headquarters.
The meeting focused on Somalia’s humanitarian situation and disaster risks, with particular attention to the ongoing drought, preparedness for the potential impacts of El Niño, early warning systems, anticipatory action and strengthening coordination among the Federal Government, Federal Member States and humanitarian partners.
The SDC delegation reaffirmed Switzerland’s commitment to continuing its support for Somalia, particularly in humanitarian assistance and strengthening cooperation with national institutions.
The SoDMA Commissioner emphasized the importance of investing in national disaster management systems and strengthening government institutional capacity to help Somalia transition from a predominantly reactive approach to one centered on risk-based preparedness, early action and long-term resilience.
