SoDMA Officials Assess Flood Preparedness in Beledweyne

Beledweyne, (SONNA) — Senior officials from the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), who are on a working visit to Beledweyne in Hiiraan Region, have conducted an assessment of living conditions in areas surrounding the city.
The officials visited Leebow and Shiniile, where they met with local authorities and residents and shared information on the El Niño forecast and key measures communities should take to prepare for any potential impacts.
Local leaders welcomed SoDMA’s efforts to raise public awareness and strengthen emergency preparedness, while providing the officials with updates on local conditions and the needs of the communities.
SoDMA officials Manager Hassan Iise and Director Abdifataah delivered awareness messages on the risks posed by heavy rains and flooding, urging residents to prepare for emergencies by clearing and cleaning drainage channels and emergency access routes to reduce flood risks and facilitate relief operations.
The initiative is part of government efforts to mitigate the potential impact of El Niño and comes as SoDMA Commissioner Hassan Ciise and a delegation he leads remain in Beledweyne to accelerate preparedness and public awareness efforts.
