SoDMA, IRC Strengthen Flood Preparedness Ahead of Potential El Niño Floods

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Somali Disaster Management Agency, in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC), held a three-day meeting in Mogadishu focused on planning and strengthening preparedness for potential El Niño-related flooding.
The meeting brought together SoDMA, IRC, UN agencies and local NGOs to strengthen coordination, preparedness planning and early action ahead of anticipated flood risks.
SoDMA Disaster Risk Management Director Khadar Sh. Sheikh Mohamed Nur opened the meeting, stressing the need for stronger preparedness plans, coordination and early action to reduce flood impacts.
The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen flood preparedness, prevention and mitigation through closer cooperation between government, international partners and local organizations.
