SoDMA Commissioner receives Plan International CEO, discusses humanitarian situation in Somalia

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mr. Mahamud Moallim today received Ms. Reena Ghelani, CEO of Plan International, at SoDMA Headquarters to discuss Somalia's humanitarian situation, including the continuing impact of drought, the anticipated risks associated with El Niño, and the potential threat of a desert locust outbreak following the rains.

The two sides reaffirmed the importance of strengthening cooperation on humanitarian response and disaster preparedness to better protect vulnerable communities across Somalia.

Commissioner Mahamuud emphasized that Somalia continues to face significant humanitarian needs and called on the international community to scale up support for the Somali people.

Ms. Reena Ghelani noted that her recent visit to Baidoa highlighted the urgent needs on the ground and stressed the importance of timely humanitarian assistance.
