SoDMA Commissioner Chairs Urgent Meeting on Preparedness for Super El Niño 2026 in Baidoa

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) Mr. Mahamuud Moallim, alongside Southwest State Ministers for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Environment and Climate Change, chaired an urgent meeting in Baidoa with humanitarian and emergency response partners.

The meeting focused on preparedness for Super El Niño 2026, particularly the risks of heavy rainfall and flooding, and early actions to reduce their potential impacts.

Discussions also covered stronger coordination of humanitarian operations, emergency response planning and prioritizing communities in high-risk areas.

Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim stressed the importance of early warnings, public awareness and close cooperation between government institutions and humanitarian partners to reduce the potential impacts of Super ElNiño 2026.
