SoDMA Commissioner Attends IGAD High-Level Meeting on El Niño Preparedness

ADDIS ABABA, (SONNA) — The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), H.E. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, and a delegation he led participated in a high-level IGAD meeting on El Niño preparedness in the Horn of Africa, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The meeting, held from 15–17 September 2026, focused on strengthening regional preparedness, particularly for the risks of heavy rainfall and flooding, with emphasis on early warning, early action and regional coordination.

Participants discussed El Niño forecasts and preparedness needs, agreeing to strengthen information sharing and regional cooperation to reduce anticipated risks.

H.E. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle presented Somalia’s government efforts to mitigate the impacts of El Niño and flooding, highlighting the importance of cooperation among countries in the region.
