SONSA Welcomes President Hassan’s Call for Dialogue on Federal Elections

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Somali Civil Society umbrella organizations welcomes the invitation and dialogue initiative launched by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to resolve the political disputes surrounding the federal electoral process.
SONSA considers this initiative an important step that must lead to tangible results. Given the difficult situation facing the country, SONSA calls on all parties to take their responsibilities seriously, participate fully in the dialogue, and avoid further delays.
SONSA is committed to playing a constructive and collective role in the dialogue and to continuing its efforts to address the challenges hindering discussions on the federal electoral process.
SONSA hopes that the dialogue will be genuine and grounded in meaningful compromise, with a clear commitment to finding lasting solutions to the fundamental issues surrounding the electoral process.
SONSA also recommends that the dialogue complement and build upon previous efforts led by the international community to bring the Federal Government and opposition groups closer together, including the Somali Future Council, the National Unity Forum, and Nabad iyo Nolol.
Finally, SONSA calls for concerted efforts to ensure that the dialogue is inclusive and representative of all relevant stakeholders. Inclusive participation will help secure the implementation of any agreements reached and address the political disputes affecting Somalia’s state building process, security, economy, national unity, and public trust.
