PM Hamza Opens NAFIS 2026 Conference on Agricultural Investment and Food Systems

Mogadishu (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, has officially opened the National Conference on Agricultural Investment and Somalia’s Food System (NAFIS 2026), focusing on strengthening domestic food production, advancing agriculture, and expanding investment opportunities.

Prime Minister Hamza said the NAFIS 2026 conference sends an important message about the new direction of the national leadership, anchored in the National Transformation Plan (NTP) and efforts to strengthen the economy, increase production, and expand investment opportunities in the agricultural sector.

He highlighted Somalia’s significant potential for food production, supported by its vast agricultural land, water resources, and the capacity of its people, saying the country is increasingly positioned to achieve greater food self-sufficiency.

“I am confident that investment in agriculture and the food system is vital for our country and the wider Horn of Africa. Increasing domestic production will strengthen our economy, improve the region’s development infrastructure, create opportunities for Somali youth, and lay the foundation for increased national revenue and food self-sufficiency,” Prime Minister Hamza said.

The Prime Minister also urged institutions operating in Somalia to recognize the changes taking place in the country and align their cooperation with the government’s evolving national plans and priorities, which he said reflect a new Somalia and efforts to strengthen state institutions.
