PM Hamza Chairs Security Meeting in Mogadishu, Commends Security Forces

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre, this evening chaired a meeting on Mogadishu’s security at the Ministry of Defence, before attending a ceremony honouring the national forces and recognising their role in maintaining security in the capital and across the country.

Jointly organised by the Ministry of Defence and the Somali National Armed Forces Command, the ceremony was attended by the Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi; the Minister of Internal Security; the Commander of the Somali National Armed Forces, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud; the Governor of Banadir and Mayor of Mogadishu; the Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA); the Commander of the Somali Police Force; and commanders and officers from the various forces.

During the meeting preceding the ceremony, the Prime Minister received a briefing on Mogadishu’s security situation. The briefing reported an 86.06% reduction in security incidents in the capital between 2023 and 2026, following the implementation of a sustained security plan.

Discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation and coordination between security and defence institutions to protect civilians and consolidate stability in the capital.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre commended the forces for their achievements in securing Mogadishu and the wider country, emphasising the importance of preserving those gains and preventing any actions that undermine public security.

“No one should be allowed to jeopardise security, whoever they may be,” the Prime Minister said.
