PM Hamza Chairs First National Skills and Employment Development Committee Meeting

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Hamza Abdi Barre chaired the inaugural meeting of the National Committee for Skills Development and Employment Creation, focusing on accelerating the committee’s priority activities and delivering tangible results in skills development and sustainable employment opportunities for Somali youth.

Officials from the Prime Minister’s Office briefed the meeting on the committee’s mandate, the national framework for coordinating skills development and job creation, and its priority action plan. The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs also presented the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Policy, aimed at developing skills aligned with labour-market needs and economic opportunities.

Prime Minister Hamza stressed the need for a unified national approach to skills development and employment creation, calling for the Federal Government, Federal Member States, private sector and development partners to coordinate efforts linking skills, labour-market demand, investment and job creation.

He said the objective is to translate the country’s ongoing efforts and investments into measurable outcomes, including quality skills, sustainable jobs and inclusive economic growth.
