National Electoral Commission to Reschedule Galmudug Elections Following Supreme Court Ruling

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC) has announced that it will set a new date for repeat elections in Galmudug State following the Supreme Court’s ruling on the region’s concurrent Local Council and House of Representatives elections held on 30 July 2026.

The Commission said it received a copy of the Supreme Court’s decision and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the Constitution, electoral laws, the rule of law and the principles of free, fair and transparent elections.

The Commission said it respected the constitutional role of the Supreme Court and the legal mechanisms for resolving electoral disputes, citing Article 73 of the National Elections Law, which outlines the Supreme Court’s jurisdiction over electoral matters.

The Commission will announce the date for the repeat elections in Galmudug in due course.
