Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The Chairman of Somalia’s National Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (NIEBC), Abdikarim Ahmed Hassan, held a briefing with members of the international community on the Commission’s electoral achievements and ongoing preparations.

The briefing was attended by ambassadors from the United States, United Kingdom, China, Türkiye, Ethiopia, Kenya, Sudan and Egypt, as well as representatives of the United Nations, African Union and Organization of Islamic Cooperation.

In his opening remarks, Chairman Hassan outlined the key achievements of the NIEBC, highlighting the local council elections held in Banadir Region, as well as the integrated local council and state assembly elections conducted in Southwest State and Galmudug State.

He also briefed the international representatives on preparations for the planned integrated local council and state assembly elections in Hirshabelle State, as part of the country’s ongoing efforts to advance the electoral process.

The briefing provided an opportunity for the NIEBC to update international partners on progress made so far and the Commission’s preparations for upcoming electoral processes across Somalia.
