National Commission for Refugees Launches CAPSOM II Project to Strengthen Support for Returnees

Nairobi, (SONNA) — Somalia’s National Commission for Refugees and IDPs (NCRI) today launched the CAPSOM II project in Nairobi, aimed at strengthening support for Somali returnees and enhancing the capacity of government officials responsible for return and reintegration.

The initiative seeks to improve the management of return processes and support Somalia’s goal of ensuring safe, dignified and sustainable returns. It is implemented through cooperation between the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), the Swedish Migration Agency (SMA) and the NCRI.

Government representatives, civil society organisations, the European Union and international partners based in Nairobi attended the launch, where participants stressed the importance of sustainable systems to support returning Somalis, including access to employment opportunities.

NCRI Chairman Liibaan Cabdi Eegal highlighted the importance of strengthening the skills and knowledge of the Commission’s staff through training under the programme. He also announced that the initiative will support job opportunities for 300 Somali returnees.
