NISA Kills Three Senior Al-Shabaab Commanders in Hiiraan Region

Mogadishu, (SONNA) — The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in cooperation with international partners, killed three senior Al-Shabaab commanders and five guards in a planned operation in Tardo area of Hiiraan region, while four others were wounded.

The operation specifically targeted a location where four Al-Shabaab commanders were staying. The three commanders killed were Said Xuuriye, the commander responsible for extortion in eastern Hiiraan; Hamse Bakool, the commander of what the group calls its Fronts operating in Hiiraan; and Osman, the commander of what the group calls Fursaan.

The attack also killed five militants who were guarding the commanders and wounded four others, including commander Khalid Ciro. Commander Abdikarim Yusuf Ahmed, who was the most prominent Al-Shabaab commander in the Tardo area, narrowly escaped the targeted location.

The operation is part of ongoing efforts to pursue Al-Shabaab commanders and weaken the group’s capacity to organize and carry out terrorist activities.
