NISA Condemns Armed Attacks on Public Protection Forces in Mogadishu

Mogadishu, October 11, 2026: The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) strongly condemns the armed attacks and acts of aggression directed against its Public Protection Forces operating at the General Da’ud Section of Wadajir District, in Banadir Region. The incident involved armed militias operating under the command of former Somali President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed.
The armed militias attempted to provoke a violent confrontation with security personnel. However, NISA’s Public Protection Forces demonstrated restraint, professionalism, and a strong sense of responsibility, avoiding any action that could have escalated tensions or endangered civilian lives. Evidence gathered by NISA indicates that militia members armed with AK-47 rifles, BKM machine guns, and rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) forcibly entered residential properties in the Tiintiinley neighborhood of Wadajir District.
Furthermore, on June 24, 2026, the same armed militias reportedly attacked NISA’s Public Protection Forces and abducted one officer who was carrying out his official duties. On June 27, 2026, the militias once again obstructed security operations conducted by NISA personnel in the General Da’ud Section.
The National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) is a law enforcement and national security institution that operates strictly within the framework of the law and remains independent of political rivalries. NISA will not allow its personnel to be drawn into political disputes, nor will it compromise its responsibility to safeguard national security and protect the Somali people.
NISA remains firmly committed to fulfilling its legal mandate, maintaining peace and stability in the capital, and preventing any actions that threaten public safety and security.
